Form REG 230. Motorized Bicycle Instructions/Application
The REG 230 Motorized Bicycle Instructions/Application is a form used to apply for original registration, transfer, duplicates, and substitutes for motorized bicycles (mopeds). This form consists of five sections: General Information, Vehicle Information, Applicant Information, Authorization and Certification, and Declarations.
The General Information section requires the name of the applicant, the type of application (original, transfer, duplicate, or substitute), the date of application, the license plate number, and the ARB/CARB check (if applicable).
The Vehicle Information section requires details such as the make and model of the motorized bicycle, the vehicle identification number (VIN), the engine number, the vehicle registration number, and other relevant information.
The Applicant Information section requires the applicant's name, address, date of birth, and telephone number. This section also requires the issuance date of the last DL 38 form, the transaction fee (if transferring from another owner) and the application fee.
The Authorization and Certification section requires a signature from the applicant, as well as a signature from the person to whom the vehicle is being transferred (if applicable). In addition, this section requires the signature of the issuer of the old DL 38 form (if applicable).
The Declarations section requires the applicant to confirm certain statements, such as “the information entered is true and accurate”, “the vehicle meets the requirements for a motorized bicycle”, and “the registration is valid for a period of two years”.
When compiling this form, it is important to remember to fill out all sections accurately and completely, to ensure that all documents are included, and to submit the form to the DMV as soon as possible. In addition, it is good practice to make a copy of the form for your records.
The benefits of submitting this form include receiving a registration certificate, valid for two years, that provides proof of ownership of the motorized bicycle. This form also relieves the vehicle owner of the requirement to obtain an individual registration sticker on their vehicle.
Some challenges associated with submitting this form include creating an accurate transaction fee amount if transferring from another owner, and making sure all forms are properly signed and dated if transferring from another owner. In addition, the person to whom the vehicle is being transferred may need to fill out additional forms.
The risks associated with this form include having to pay additional fees or penalties for incorrect or incomplete information, or for submitting a form with an inaccurate signature.
There are other forms related to the REG 230, such as REG 350, which is used to register mopeds and scooters, and REG 256, which is used to transfer ownership of a vehicle from one person to another. In addition, REG 343 is used to replace a stolen, lost, or mutilated vehicle registration certificate.
The DL 44 Application for a Driver License or Identification Card is an alternative form to the REG 230. Whereas the REG 230 is used to apply for original registration, transfer, duplicates, and substitutes for motorized bicycles (mopeds), the DL 44 is used to apply for a driver license or identification card.
The REG 230 is submitted to the DMV and stored in their records. When the form is submitted properly and all required documents are included, the applicant receives a registration certificate that is valid for two years. The certificate provides proof of ownership of the motorized bicycle and relieves the vehicle owner of the requirement to obtain an individual registration sticker on their vehicle.
