Generic Bill of Sale

Generic Bill of Sale

This Bill of Sale is a legal document used to record the sale of a vehicle from a seller to a buyer. It outlines the details of the transaction and provides a record of the exchange, including the description of the vehicle, the exchange terms (e.g., cash payment, trade, gift, or other), tax responsibility, and the odometer reading. The document also includes a notary acknowledgment for the seller.

Structure:

  1. The Parties: Identifies the buyer and the seller with their names and addresses. The date of the transaction is also provided.

  2. Vehicle Description: Provides detailed information about the vehicle being sold, including make, model, body type, year, color, odometer reading, and the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

  3. The Exchange: States the method of exchange, which can be one of the following:

    • Cash Payment: Buyer agrees to pay a specified amount to the seller.
    • Trade: Buyer agrees to pay a specified amount and trade another vehicle with its details.
    • As a Gift: The seller is giving the vehicle as a gift, with a specified value.
    • Other: Allows for additional details if the exchange method doesn't fall into the previous categories.
  4. Taxes: Specifies who is responsible for paying any taxes related to the sale: either the buyer (not included in the exchange) or the seller (included in the exchange).

  5. Buyer and Seller Conditions: Highlights that the vehicle is sold "as is, where is" with no warranties or guarantees, either expressed or implied.

  6. Authorization: Provides spaces for both the buyer and the seller to sign and date the document. Their printed names are also required.

  7. Odometer Disclosure Statement: Ensures compliance with federal and state laws related to odometer disclosure. The seller certifies the accuracy of the odometer reading and checks the appropriate statement regarding mileage.

  8. Notary Acknowledgment (Seller Only): Provides a space for a notary public to verify the identity of the seller, certifying that they executed the document in their authorized capacity.

This Bill of Sale serves as an official record of the vehicle sale, protecting both the buyer and the seller's interests. Additionally, it complies with legal requirements for odometer disclosure and notary acknowledgment where applicable.
